10 string doubleneck guitar by Gary Southwell after Scherzer (1861)

October 12, 2020

For Sale

This is a copy of a guitar originally made in Vienna in 1861 by J.G. Scherzer, one of Stauffer’s star apprentices. The guitar has a double adjustable neck and features a double back to prevent the player damping the guitar’s body. It is made with a German spruce top, figured maple back and sides and a neck veneered in ebony.
The instrument is in the south of Germany. Questions welcome.

This instrument sounds very well, perfectly balanced. Ideal for solo or chamber music.
Actually strung in nylgut/aquila but it’s perfect for gut strings.

The case is old but perfectly working and it has weels.
The instrument is now in Rome.
I would prefer hand pick up but I can safely send it.

ten course lute by Grant Tomlinson

September 30, 2020

For Sale

I am selling my ten course lute by Grant Tomlinson to make room in my closet, and my budget, for some new instruments. It is a marvelous instrument and I only part with it because my repertoire focus has changed. Currently strung in veil ton at a=415, but works just as well at 392 or in accords nouveaux.
Grant built it in 2009. The photos and description on his website (bottom of his “ten course” page) are of my exact lute. The only correction is, he managed to get a 10th tied fret on the neck, which is very handy for its customary repertoire.
The lute has minimal wear, just the customary faint smudge on the face where the pinky finger rests.

wandervogel lute made by Meinel & Herold, in Germany, c.1900.

September 26, 2020

For Sale

My mother brought this instrument with her from Germany in 1959. It has been in our family for many years prior. The lute has 6 strings, and is missing one pin. The decorative floral piece at the top needs to be glued/re-attached.
This lute comes in the original cloth carry case with a leather handle.
Unfortunately, no one in our family plays string instruments. Therefore, I would love for this family piece to go to a new home, where someone will give it the play that it deserves.

USD 500 (I am open to fair offers). Purchaser pays shipping/insurance. PayPal is accepted.

14 (or 15) huge Theorbo by Lauri Niskanen, 2020, 87cm+174cm diapasons. comes with a hard shell case.

August 17, 2020

For Sale

This theorbo has purple heart ribs and a beautiful Schelle rosette. It sounds as huge and woody as it is.
At the moment it is tuned to G 415hz and sounds beautiful.
It is perfect, with no dents or scratches at all. I ordered it back in the end of 2018 and got it in 2020. Since the beginning of this year I got a very nice job, that unfortunately requires me to travel very often, which makes it nigh impossible for me to practice with such a not-very-portable instrument.
I’m selling it for 3750 euros, which is 500 euros less than what I paid, however I’m very much willing to do any sorts of trades, including trading it for a lute. Hit me up if you want a (big) theorbo and you have a lute from Martin Shepherd, Clive Titmuss, Lars tørressen, Jiri Cepelak, Lauri Niskanen and luthiers alike.
It’d be very easy to deliver this to you if you happened to come to Helsinki, Stockholm, Riga or anywhere in Estonia.
