You know that instrument you love so much? The lut You know that instrument you love so much? The lute that brings you happiness when you get to spend time with it? Ahhhhh! Now put that together with a known fact that “happiness is especially real when shared.” Then consider taking advantage of Giving Tuesday this year on behalf of the Lute Society of America. Yes, the Society is in better shape financially, thanks to the diligence of our Treasurer and Bookkeeper, and to the fiscally responsible Board. What that means is we can dream bigger.

What do we dream of?

We dream of steps we can take to expand interest in the lute, develop programs in areas where there is the potential for budding interest and help them grow.
We can grow a pot of money to award as Mini-grants for advanced students of the lute to pursue a research project.
We can put even more lutes into circulation with our Lute Rental Program by buying cases for a few instruments currently unrentable for lack of a case.
We can offer more scholarships to Lute Fest.

Your donation will help us realize these dreams. If you’d like to help, head over to the donation page of our website. There you can choose what you’d like to help fund, or you can scroll to the drop-down list and just choose General Fund. Future lovers of the lute who will benefit from your generosity will be grateful!

Thank you so much!

Sixteenth-century Spanish Christian musicians play Sixteenth-century Spanish Christian musicians played not the lute but rather nearly exclusively the Vihuela, a guitar-shaped instrument tuned exactly like the lute.

-Fragment taken from the book A History of the Lute by Douglas Alton Smith
