Bio

Tobias Tietze (*27.04.1995) finished his studies on the classical guitar at the University of Music and Theatre Hamburg in 2017. Since that year he is studying the lute with Prof. Joachim Held at the University of Arts in Bremen.
He performed with Early Music ensembles such as Vox Luminis, Bachchor Mainz or Ars Viva Ensemble Basel and took part in several CD recordings over the last years such as a world premiere recording of St. Matthew Passion by J. C. Kieling.

As Basso Continuo player he played in opera performances at venues such as Oper Kiel, Staatstheater Stuttgart or Staatsoper Hamburg with conductors like Kent Nagano, Alessandro Quarta or Stefano Montanari.
His focus in solo lute repertoire lies on the French music of the 17th century and its continuation in the German tradition of the 18th century. To found his musical approach, he is also active as a musicologist, as his first article on the French lute repertoire has just been published in the magazine of the German Lute Society.

In 2021 Tobias has been given a scholarship for cultural founding of his current home town Bremen, which resulted in his first solo CD recording at the end of the year with world premiere recordings of the the lute music of Valentin Strobel.
