Lutefest 2025 – Tuesday Schedule

Already in the Renaissance the Eloquence was an integral part of the interpretation. To move the listener to convince with the playing was one of the main goals for the interpretation which was based on Rhetoric principles. In my talk I would like to share some thoughts on the sources which explicitly mention this. What does this mean for us today?

This will be a companion class to the first session about video production, but participants are welcome to join without having attended the previous video session. We will talk about the best way to improve the quality of your self-produced audio recordings. We will cover basic equipment, microphone placement and do’s-and-don’ts of recording sound.

Learning theorbo as a classical guitarist can be daunting but it is doable! In this class, Brandon Acker will teach you how to successfully navigate through the basics of technique (nails vs no nails, right hand position, holding the instrument, etc…). He will also introduce the topic of playing basso continuo on theorbo.

This class will be an exploration of the music in manuscripts that hold the 17th century Scottish lute repertory. These include the Pickering, Skene, Rowallan, Straloch, Wemyss and Balcarres lute books.
